Suzanne Georgette Charpentier, conocida como Annabella (14 de julio de 1907 – 18 de septiembre de 1996) fue una actriz cinematográfica de nacionalidad francesa. Gracias a una fotografía enviada por su padre a un productor, Annabella debutó en el cine a los dieciséis años de edad en la obra maestra de Abel Gance Napoleón. Fue con ocasión de ese rodaje que adoptó su nombre artístico gracias a una sugerencia de Abel Gance inspirada en un personaje de Edgar Allan Poe. Contratada por 20th Century Fox, ella fue a Estados Unidos, actuando en Suez (1938), con Loretta Young y Tyrone Power, con el que se casó en 1939. Finalmente, ella y Power se divorciaron en 1948, y Annabella volvió a Francia. En 1952 hizo su última película, y se retiró tras una actuación televisiva en 1954.

The newsreel series Jornal Português (1938-1951) was produced for the Secretariat of National Propaganda (SPN/SNI) by the "Portuguese Newsreel Society" (SPAC), under the technical supervision of António Lopes Ribeiro. It was conceived and employed as part of the propaganda machinery of Salazar's regime. Screened in cinema theatres prior to the main feature film, each issue of Jornal had approximately ten minutes in length and covered a variety of official government acts, national political news, major sports events and other assorted social and cultural affairs. Jornal Português is not only an indispensable document for the history of Estado Novo's propaganda, but also an unparalleled audiovisual archive of 1940s Portugal.

The Cardinal offers to cancel the sentence if de Berault is able to capture the duke who is organizing plans for an uprising. Gil travels to the duke's castle and is allowed to stay as a guest, but the duke's wife and sister immediately suspect that he is a spy. He and his servant still make good progress, until he falls in love with the duke's sister, which complicates everything.

Before the Battle is the English-language title of this espionage melodrama. The first half of the film takes place aboard a French cruising ship, steaming through dangerous waters during WWI. Among the passengers is heroine Jeanne (Annabella), who was once in love with first-officer D'Artelles (Robert Vidalin) but he now seems strangely preoccupied. It turns out that the ship is on a secret mission, which ultimately dooms the vessel to a Lusitania-like death. After the sinking, Captain De Corlaix (Victor Francen) faces a court-martial, and it is at this point that the film clarifies several baffling plot points. Despite its complexity, the story is fairly believable, with the exception of the grafted-on romantic subplot.
