Dos parejas de misioneros mormones de América viven en un apartamento en la ciudad holandesa de Haarlem. Sus personalidades son muy diferentes. Elder Johnson es el Líder de Distrito y supervisa sus esfuerzos. Su compañero Elder Van Pelt, busca convertirse en el asistente del presidente de la misión (el puesto más alto disponible) tan pronto como sea posible. Elder Rogers se ha desilusionado y ha descuidado sus deberes desde que un compañero de misión anterior regresó a Estados Unidos y se casó con su novia.
