Es la leyenda de un cantante y compositor que tomó por primera vez un acordeón a la edad de cuatro años y que nunca lo volvió a dejar. Un hombre que hizo su vida viajando alrededor de Colombia, yendo de pueblo en pueblo y de fiesta en fiesta, cantando y tocando por unos centavos, sus canciones que logran tener un gran éxito. Tiene 93 ahora y vive en una casucha de lámina galvanizada en las afueras de Santa Marta en Colombia. Esta película empieza con el viaje de Pacho Rada a través de toda la costa caribeña de Colombia, en el que se adentra en el mundo de los músicos y cantantes que enriquece su repertorio con la música de salsa, cumbia y vallenato. Los límites entre los sueños y la realidad se pierden tanto a través de las leyendas de Pacho Rada, como en las novelas de Gabriel García Márquez.
