Builder Hovsep Manukyan's big and restless family hosts his old father Poghos who is forced to move from his native village. Many good and bad, funny and sad, important and unimportant events take place in the family of Hovsep, that help the older and the young to share their most valuable experience - culture of life, co-existence and devotion.

The movie goes back to the beginning of the century. After the death of his unfaithful wife Heghnar, Master Mkrtich builds an unusual spring in her honour. Its water stops flowing as soon as a stranger approaches it. Only Mkrtich, her husband, can drink water from the spring.

En lugar de hacer una narración lineal, el director se encarga de realizar una serie de cuadros vivientes que representan episodios importantes de la vida del poeta en clave simbólica: su infancia, su juventud, su entrada a un monasterio, o su enfrentamiento con el ángel de la muerte. Estos capítulos están desarrollados a partir de fragmentos de sus obras, los cuales aparecen en intertítulos o se escuchan mediante una voz en off.

Calm of the mountain village is disturbed by the investigation on stray sheep. Four shephards, living in Armenian highlands, cut a stray sheep for a dinner. Revaz, their neighbour and owner of the sheep, soon appears. Shephards even manage to agree on "ransom" but novice police lieutenant interferes with the deal trying to start an official investigation.
