Ryan Nicholson is a Canadian makeup artist and director of independent horror films.

For college student Josie Kane, it starts as a simple internship: to shadow a group of high-tech land surveyors as they make their first foray into an ancient wilderness. Assisted by grizzled security guard Dale Philip, the crew knows how to handle protesters and saboteurs -- but there's something much, much worse in the woods this time. The local natives say the land is cursed -- haunted by a demonic entity older than time. Now people are going missing, turning up dead or worse, and Josie and the crew are about to discover the truth behind the legend. The most alarming horror is the one you never see coming!

Directed and created by Shane Ryan, the movie was shot shortly after the events which inspired it (15 year old Alyssa Bustamante was convicted of killing her 9 year old neighbor, Elizabeth Olten). Compared to the likes of David Lynch, Larry Clark, Harmony Korine and John Cassavetes, the film dares the audience to watch it, confronting issues with kids and teenagers often sugar-coated by Hollywood. The movie tackles hard-hitting subjects like self mutilation by teen girls, bullying, rape, bulimia (showcasing the actual damage it does to a girl's body) and, of course, the murder.

Horror-metal is definitely an acquired taste. The band Necrophagia is blasting through each of these short horror vignettes and you really have to appreciate metal not to get totally turned off. The vignettes feature mutilation, zombies, and lots of blood and gore, some of it really disgusting. Director Ryan Nicholson is better known for his make-up artistry, and been nominated and won an award for makeup in "Andromeda" and "Stargate SG-1". Director Vince D'Amato has only done direct-to-video films. Jenna Jameson was only on for a second or two saying "Necrophagia Rules." The things I sit through to see Paul Naschy. His character in the film was just window dressing, but the interview in the extras was good.
