Screenplay
Lakshmi is a thirteen-year-old girl who lives with her family in a small hut on a mountain in Nepal. When the Himalayan monsoons wash away all that remains of the family's crops, Lakshmi's father says she must leave home and take a job to support her family. He introduces her to a glamorous stranger who tells her she will find her a job as a maid in the city. Glad to be able to help, Lakshmi journeys to India and arrives at "Happiness House" full of hope. But she soon learns the unthinkable truth: she has been sold into prostitution...

Nim y su padre Jack son los únicos habitantes de una remota y exótica isla. Aunque no va a la escuela, Nim ayuda a su padre a realizar diariamente anotaciones científicas, se ocupa de cuidar el huerto y de que el panel solar alimente el ordenador, a través del cual Jack se comunica con el mundo. Piper (Georg Olden) es llevado a un orfanato por la policía. Allí conoce a otros niños internos, entre los que están Mouse (Michael Hentz), Blackie (Christopher Brown), Whitey (Joey Coleman) y Joey (Pamela Segall). Tanto Kurtz como Serena, la administradora del centro, tratan con muy malos modos a los chicos. Estos van a unirse para rescatar al joven Mouse, quien ha sido adoptado por los Fitzpatrick (Martin Mull y Karen Black) una familia de locos y raros personajes.
