ハリウッドのスター、ボブ・ハリス（ビル・マーレイ）はウイスキーのCM撮影のために来日し、滞在先のホテルへと向かっていた。ホテルで出迎える日本人スタッフに軽く挨拶をし部屋に入るとアメリカの妻からファックスが入る……。

近未来の半ば朽ちかけたような港町に子供の失踪事件が続発。実は町に横行する一つ目教団が、沖合に浮かぶ奇妙な実験室に住む天才クローン人間クランク（ダニエル・エミルフォルク）に夢を見させるため、誘拐していたのだ。サーカスの怪力男ワン（ロン・パールマン）の幼い弟ダンレー（ジョゼフ・ルシアン）も誘拐される。ワンは9歳のミエット（ジュディット・ビッテ）率いる孤児の泥棒団に出会う。彼女たちは孤児院を経営するシャム双生児の姉妹の命令下にあり、ワンも腕力を買われて一味に入らされる。ミエットはワンの弟探しに同情して、二人は一つ目教団の本拠に潜入するが捕まり、処刑されることに。

8年前、森の中で行方不明になっていた少年が、当時の姿のまま帰ってきた。その頃NASAでは、奇怪なUFOの調査を行っていたが、少年の失踪にはUFOが関係していた事が判明する......。

医学の研究に生涯を捧げ、その長年の功績を認められ名誉学位を受けることになった老教授イサク。その授与式は栄光に満ちた日になるはずだったが、前夜に自身の死を暗示する悪夢を見たためか、彼の心は晴れない。イサクは授与式当日に当初の予定を変更して、現在の住まいであるストックホルムから式の行われるルンドまで車で向かおうとする。そんな彼に、義理の娘であるマリアンヌも同行を願い出る。 半日程度の小旅行はイサクにとって、これまでの自分の人生を顧みるまたとない機会となった。青年時代に婚約者を弟に奪われたこと、妻がイサクの無関心に耐えられず不貞を働いたことなどを思い出し煩悶するイサク。そしてマリアンヌに、イサクの息子エヴァルドと彼女の間に子供が居ないのは、イサクを見て育ったエヴァルドが家庭というものに絶望しているからだと告げられる。研究者としての輝かしい名声とは裏腹に、イサクの人生は空虚なものだった。 また、イサクはルンドへ向かう途中様々な人物に出会う。奔放なヒッチハイカーの少女とその二人のボーイフレンド、不毛な夫婦喧嘩を繰り返す男女、引越していったイサクを今でも慕うガソリンスタンドの店主とその妻、そしてイサクの老いた母親。彼らとの出会いと過去への後悔が、徐々にイサクを変えていく。 無事に授与式を終えたイサクはその夜、エヴァルドと家族のことについて誠実に話し合う。寝室の外では昼間に出会ったヒッチハイカーたちが、イサクの栄誉を心から祝福していた。満ち足りた気持ちで眠りにつくイサク。彼が見る夢は前夜の悪夢と違い、不思議な充足感を伴うものだった。

Deep in the lush river jungles of Argentina, Alvaro lives a solitary existence fishing and harvesting reeds. What sets him apart from the rest of his village is that he is gay. There are no other gay men in his world, his only means of expression is with the occasional outsider who passes through. Most of these men come via the river taxi El León, whose captain El Turu is a mean man with a homophobic streak and a secret. When illegal loggers appear in the jungle El Turu accuses Alvaro of aiding them, a dispute which leads both men towards confrontation.
