イギリスで劇作家として成功したオスカー・ワイルドは、１８９５年、恋人ボジーの父親の告発をきっかけに同性愛行為で有罪となり、仕事も名誉も家族も失ってしまう。２年の懲役の後、ワイルドは彼を敬愛する青年ロビーらの尽力によってフランスへ渡り、“セバスチャン・メルモス”という偽名で心機一転、出直しを図る。ボジーとは２度と会わないと誓い、妻との和解を望むワイルドだったが、訪ねてきたボジーと離れられなかった…。
