A young blacksmith, searching for happiness in a series of dreams, realizes that he must find a rejected princess and hold her hand. A fairytale after the Brothers Grimm.
シュレックは他の人からは怖がられている怪物である。その外見とは裏腹に本質は心の優しい彼は、人里離れた沼地で一人気楽に暮らしていた。ある日、シュレックは森の中でお調子者でおしゃべりなロバのドンキーと出会う。シュレックに怯えて逃げた兵達を見てシュレックが自分を救ってくれたと思い込み嫌がるシュレックについて行く。ドンキーのおしゃべりにうんざりしたシュレックが戻ってみると、彼の沼地には妖精やおとぎ話の主人公達が押し寄せてきていた。
旅の末、フィオナの呪いを解き、無事に結婚したシュレックとフィオナ。幸せな日々を送っていたが、ある日フィオナの両親から、結婚の祝いを行うので来る様にとの手紙が届く。嫌われるに決まっていると最初は渋っていたシュレックだが、同じく結婚したドラゴンと近頃気まずいというドンキーと共に仕方なくフィオナの故郷「遙か彼方の王国」に旅立ち、到着するもシュレックの予想通り、シュレックや怪物姿のフィオナを見た両親はびっくりし、怪物という偏見と考えが合わないことでシュレックと国王は喧嘩をしてしまう。

One day, Happiness and Sorrow come to town. Happiness leaves her magical cloak in the local inn, saying that it fulfills every wish to those who wear it. However, Sorrow knows that Happiness doesn't come alone, but brings worries with herself, too. The magical cloak changes its owner and fulfills the most unusual wishes of timid professor of violin, old night guard, naive student and blonde girl. When all their wishes are fulfilled, they find out that they did not achieve happiness.
