地球という星の、ロサンゼルス、ニューヨーク、パリ、ローマ、ヘルシンキという5つの都市で、5人のタクシー・ドライバーが乗客を乗せた。同じ夜にそれぞれに繰り広げられる5つの物語。本作はジャームッシュの作品に共通して見られる奇妙な可笑しさ、卓越したセンスが冴える会話に加え、背景に広がる空しさに満ちた荒涼感は健在であり、その独自の雰囲気で好き嫌いがハッキリと二分される彼の作品にしては割りと門戸が広く、様々な人が楽しめる作品に仕上がっている。特に、ニューヨークが舞台の話と、ロベルト・ベニーニ主演によるパリの話がお勧め。

実在の映画監督で、“史上最低の監督”と謳われた、エドワード・D・ウッド・ジュニア－－通称エド・ウッドの伝記的作品。50年代のハリウッド。スタジオの片隅で使い走りをしながら、映画監督になる日を夢見て働いていた映画青年エドは、ある日業界誌に載った性転換をした男性の物語の映画化を知り、本物の服装倒錯者だったエドは、シナリオを3日間で書き上げ、ふとしたきっかけで知り合った往年のドラキュラ俳優、ベラ・ルゴシの出演を条件に資金を得て、監督デビューを飾るが……。
