CROSSES (2022)

1958年、ノイシュタット。15歳のマイケルは偶然から知り合った年上の女性ハンナに誘惑され、彼女に童貞を捧げる。ハンナの部屋に通い出すマイケルだが、彼女から頼まれ、「オデュッセイア」「犬を連れた奥さん」などの古典小説を彼女に朗読するように。そんなマイケルが彼女との愛が深まったと感じた時、ハンナは突然、彼の前から姿を消してしまう。8年後、法学生になったマイケルがハンナと再会したのは意外な場所だった。

A young photographer Thun and his girlfriend Jane discover mysterious shadows in their photographs after fleeing the scene of an accident. As they investigate the phenomenon, they find other photographs contain similar supernatural images, that Thun's best friends are being haunted as well, and Jane discovers that her boyfriend has not told her everything. It soon becomes clear that you can not escape your past.

オリジナルビデオアニメが隆盛となった1980年代中盤に、作家性を前面に押し出して製作されたオムニバス作品である。大友克洋は本作ではオープニング、エンディングを担当しているが、短い時間に大友アニメのエッセンスが詰まっている。タイトルロゴの英字は、ディテールいっぱいに構造物が判別できるよう描き込まれた建造物。それが機械として走って来る構図や、オモチャ箱的で遊園地のような中身が丁寧に段取りを踏んで崩壊していく映像など、まさしく『スチームボーイ』の縮図と言っても良い光景がそこにある。他の作家がそれぞれ「ロボット」をお題に独特の世界を展開する中で、大友克洋はちょっと肩の力を抜いた映像主体の短編をつくりあげている。
