舞台は19世紀のイギリス。科学技術が目覚しい発展を遂げていた時代。マンチェスターに住むレイは、オハラ財団に出向したため渡米している発明家の祖父ロイドと父エドワードと同じく、発明が好きな少年だった。

一人暮らしのゼペットじぃさんは、木でつくった人形に【ピノキオ】と名づけ、星に「自分の子どもになりますように…」と願いをかける。するとブルーフェアリーが現れ、魔法でピノキオに命を授け「勇気を持って生き、正直で優しければいつか本当の人間になれる」と言い残して去って行く。 学校へ通うようになったピノキオだが、いろいろな誘惑に惑わされてしまい…。

2010年8月5日、チリのサンホセ鉱山で落盤事故が起こり、坑道の奥深くに33人の従業員が閉じ込められてしまう。食料の備蓄は3日分しかなく救出活動も難航する中、地下700メートルの避難所ではマリオをリーダーに、従業員たちが少しずつ食料を分け合いながら救援を待ち続ける。次第に生存が絶望視されていく中で17日目、33人の生存を外にいる救出員たちが確認し、大型ドリルを使った救出作戦が決行される。

過去との決別のために新天地に来たグレタ は、老夫婦と暮らす8歳の男の子のベビーシッターのアルバイトとしての仕事に就いた。しかしその少年は人間サイズの人形だった…。冗談かと思い笑うグレタを前に、老夫婦はその人形を「ブラームス」と呼び人間として溺愛しグレタを驚愕させる。さらにその人形を世話するときの「必ず守らなくてはいけない」10のルールを知らされグレタは衝撃を受ける。やがて老夫婦が旅行に出かけ不在になった屋敷でグレタがルールを無視し始めた時から人形に奇妙な現象がおき始める。それは想像を絶する惨劇の始まりだった。一体人形に何が起こりはじめたのか?
