Collecting Rooftops (2002)

筒井康隆の小説『時をかける少女』が原作であるが、原作の物語の映画化ではなく、原作の出来事から約20年後を舞台に次世代の登場人物が繰り広げる物語を描く続編である。

サチエ（小林聡美）はフィンランドの都市、ヘルシンキで「かもめ食堂」という名の日本食の小さな店を営んでいる。ある日食堂にやってきた日本かぶれの青年に「ガッチャマンの歌の歌詞」を質問されるが、思い出せず悶々としていると、町の書店で背の高い日本人女性ミドリ（片桐はいり）を見かける。もしや、と思い試しに「ガッチャマンの歌詞を教えて下さい!」と話しかけると、見事に全歌詞を書き上げる。旅をしようと世界地図の前で目をつぶり、指した所がフィンランドだった…というミドリに「何かを感じた」サチエは、彼女を家に招き入れ、やがて食堂で働いてもらうことに。 一方、マサコ（もたいまさこ）は両親の介護という人生の大役を務め終え、息抜きにフィンランドにたどり着いたものの、手違いで荷物が紛失してしまう。航空会社が荷物を探す間にかもめ食堂へとたどりつく。 生い立ちも性格も年齢も違う3人の女性が、奇妙な巡り合わせでかもめ食堂に集まった…。

仕事を辞めたばかりの息子が、グラビアカメラマンの父親に誘われ避暑地の山荘へやってくる。息子は妻の不倫、父は離婚の危機と互いに問題を抱えながらも、 2人は亡き祖母が集めてきた古着のジャージを着て、夏休みをのんびりと過ごす。翌年の夏、2人は猛暑の東京から逃れるように山荘へ向かう。

ある日、どうぶつ村にあいという女の子が引っ越して来る。ひとり暮らしを始めた彼女はたぬきちが営むタヌキ商店でアルバイトの仕事に就き、心優しいサリーやストレートな物言いが魅力のブーケら村の仲間たちと親しくなっていく。ある晩、あいが浜辺に打ち上げられたボトルを拾うと、そこには不思議なメッセージが書かれていた。

「僕」は一度死んだはずだが、天使に「抽選にあたりました!」と言われ、生まれ変わり「小林真」という中学生としてもう一度人生をやり直すチャンスを与えられる。そして、小林真として生活が始まるのだが、さまざまな困難が立ちはだかった。

小さな２階建ロッジのパン屋が湖畔に開店した。夫の水縞尚が焼くパンと、妻のりえが入れるおいしいコーヒーが自慢の店。店名は、りえがお気に入りの絵本「月とマーニ」にちなんで「カフェマーニ」。たちまち近所で人気の店になり、子沢山で農家経営の広川一家、謎のトランクを持った阿部さん、地獄耳のガラス作家・陽子さん、そして毎日配達にきてくれる郵便屋さんなどの常連客に憩いの場を提供する。薪の竃で焼いたパンの他、自家菜園の野菜を使った料理も絶品。１階のテーブル席では、大きな窓に湖畔の景色が映え、日が没すると月夜が輝く。２階は簡易宿泊所になっており、ときどき、正面のバス停を利用して遠方から旅行客も訪れる。

“Laura” is based on a true story about a dramatic search and rescue mission at Halemba coal mine that gripped Poland in February of 2006. A miner was trapped underground, and by the fourth day when everyone was beginning to lose hope of his safe return, the rescue team heard a faint knocking on the pipeline. After a nearly a week long search, the miner was rescued. Those who followed the story closely called it a miracle. But the miner claimed that what saved him was stronger than a miracle – his love for his daughter Laura, and his wife Marlena.

27歳で独身サラリーマンのダイキチは祖父の葬儀で、祖父の隠し子りんと出会う。わずか6歳の少女が親戚中から邪魔なお荷物扱いされるのに怒りを覚え、両親や妹の反対を押し切ってりんをひとり暮らしの借家へ連れ帰る。保育園探しに始まり、残業のない部署への異動や、おねしょ対策まで常に全力投球のダイキチに、りんも心を開いてゆく。ある日、りんと仲良しのコウキの母親が憧れの女性だったこと知りダイキチは驚く。

全員同じ大学に合格して後は卒業を間近に控えるだけとなった唯、澪、律、紬は、部室でお茶を飲みながらいつも通りの時間を過ごしていた。ある日唯たち4人は、教室でクラスメートのバレー部が卒業旅行の計画を立てていることを知り、卒業旅行に行くことを決める。その話を聞いた梓も加えて、行先の候補地を決めることになる。当初あみだくじで決めようとしていたが唯のインチキによりあみだくじは中止に。その後、水槽の中に入れた、それぞれの行きたい場所を書いたティーカップの中から、トンちゃんが触れた場所に決める、という方法をとる。その結果、澪の希望しているロンドンに行くことになった。そして、いざロンドンへ出発した軽音部員達だったが、一方で唯達3年生は、唯の提案で先輩として梓に残すものとして、梓に贈る曲のことを考えていた。
