どこか浮き足立った雰囲気を醸す感謝祭前日のニューヨーク。精神科医のネイサンは、元同僚のサックス医師から分裂症の患者を診てくれるよう頼まれる。患者は華奢な体つきのエリザベスという少女だったが、彼女はしばしば別の人格が表われ、信じられない力で暴力をふるうという。さっそく面談治療を始めたネイサンだが、その日は意味不明のひとことを聞き出すのがやっとだった。しかし翌日、ネイサンは愛娘ジェシーを誘拐され、犯人から「5時までにエリザベスから6桁の数字を聞き出せ」との要求を受けるのだった…。
