The Immortal Bachelor (1975)

原作者C・ブラウンの実話を映画化した作品。生まれながらの重度の脳性小児麻痺により、左足が少し動かせるだけで、後は植物人間同様の生活を余儀なくされている不遇の主人公が、その絶え間ざる努力の末、やがて言語能力を取り戻し、わずかに動く左足を使い絵を描けるようになるまで成長していく姿を描く。

ジョーは、大統領の命を救った事もある元シークレット・サービスだったが、今はしがない探偵に落ちぶれていた。ダンサーのコリーの身辺警護を仕事仲間が持ち込んできたが、女房と密通していたそいつは、ジョーの家の前で車ごと爆死する。一方、コリーの情夫、元フットボーラーのジミーは、妻子を事故で失った傷も癒えぬまま、麻薬と賭博でリーグを追われ、人生に何の目標も持てない日々を送っていた。警護に就いたジョーを何者かが襲う。辛くも相手を倒し、駆けつけるが一歩遅く、ジョーとジミーの目前でコリーは何者かに殺されてしまう。
