The story of an unruly class of bright, funny history students at a Yorkshire grammar school in pursuit of an undergraduate place at Oxford or Cambridge. 「デスペラード」「フロム・ダスク・ティル・ドーン」のロバート・ロドリゲスと、「スクリーム」の脚本家ケヴィン・ウィリアムソンが組んだSFスリラー。気弱な少年ケイシーは、ある日、グラウンドで奇妙な生き物を見つける。その生き物を水槽に入れた時、その生き物は変形し、攻撃的な本性を露にした。やがて、ケイシーはやたらに水を欲しがる辺りの人達のおかしな行動に気づく。「あの生物が人間に寄生しているかもしれない」と感じたケイシーは、仲間と共に学園の調査を開始。そこで、取り付かれた先生が保険医を襲う場面に遭遇する……。

高校のバスケット・チームを舞台に教師の苦悩と葛藤を描く感動の人間ドラマ。監督は『ネゴシエーター』のトーマス・カーター。R＆B界の歌姫・アシャンティが本作で映画デビューを飾っている。サミュエル・L・ジャクソン演じるコーチ・カーターの人間らしいキャラクターはハマリ役。

筒井康隆の小説『時をかける少女』が原作であるが、原作の物語の映画化ではなく、原作の出来事から約20年後を舞台に次世代の登場人物が繰り広げる物語を描く続編である。
