既に法廷劇の代名詞となって久しい、アメリカ映画史に輝く傑作ドラマ。元々は高い評価を受けたTV作品で、その脚本・演出コンビによる映画版だが、そのいかにもTV向きの密室劇を上手くスクリーンに転化させた手腕は見事の一言。17歳の少年が起こした殺人事件に関する陪審員の討論が始まったが、誰が見ても有罪と思えたその状況下で、ひとりの陪審員が無罪を主張した事から物語は動き始める……。

DCコミックスの誇るスーパー・ヒーローを巨費を投じて映画化した大作。ゴッサム・シティの闇に跳梁し悪を粉砕するバットマンと犯罪組織の新ボス・ジョーカーとの戦い。単純明解な娯楽編にはせずにひねった作品を目指していたのか、バットマンの誕生の秘密やジョーカーの設定などかなり暗めで、マニアックな仕上がりになっている。ニコルソン怪演。

フロリダ。高校の人気教師サムが、教え子のケリーからレイプされたと訴えられ、裁判が開かれることに。だがケリーのクラスメイトのスージーの証言によって事件はケリーの狂言だと暴露され、サムが多額の慰謝料を手にして裁判は終結する。それに不審を抱いた刑事デュケは再捜査に乗り出すが、実はサムはケリーやスージーと裏で手を組んでいたのだった。しかも事態は、その後も意外な方向に突き進んでいく。

ピューリッツァ賞を受賞したＨ・リーの『ものまね鳥を殺すには』を劇作家Ｈ・フートが脚色（オスカー受賞）、後に「サンセット物語」や「レッド・ムーン」などの社会派ドラマを多く手掛ける製作パクラ＝監督マリガンのコンビが映画化した問題作。不況の風吹く１９３２年、南部のアラバマ州。幼い息子と娘を抱える弁護士フィンチに、暴行事件で訴えられた黒人トムの弁護の任が下る。だが偏見根強い町の人々は黒人側に付いたフィンチに冷たく当たるのだった……。映画はフィンチの子供たちを通して、父親の苦難や町の横暴を極めて客観的に描く事に成功しており、問題意識を振りかざさず、しんみりと心に染み入らせるものになっている。ペックは心強い父親像をよく出しており、アカデミーの主演男優賞に輝いた。黒人弁護のストーリーと並行して、近所に住む精神異常者ブー（Ｒ・デュヴァル）と子供たちの関係も描出されるが、これが物語の終息で融合し、映画に深い余韻を持たせている。
