夏を過ごそうと田舎町で下宿するハンバートに、未亡人シャーロットは積極的だが、当のハンバートは彼女の娘・ロリータに心奪われていた。やがてハンバートとシャーロットは結婚するが、夫が娘を愛してる事を知ったシャーロットは逆上のあまり事故死してしまう。心置きなく二人だけの暮らしと相成るはずだったが、近所の視線も気になり、ハンバートはロリータを連れて車で旅に出るのだが……。
