経営していた小さな出版社が倒産し、取り立てヤクザに妻の良子を犯された村木は、人生に絶望し、金で女を買い、凌辱した後、自殺しようと考えていた。ホテトルから名美という女がやってきて、村木は彼女に魅せられる。二年後、死ねなかった村木はタクシーの運転手をしていた。借金の取り立てが妻に及ばないように離婚していたが、良子は仕事帰りの村木を待つ習慣が出来ていた。そんなある日、二年前に出逢った名美を村木は、客として乗せた。海に行きたいという名美は、浜辺に着くと、海の中に入っていこうとする。名美を止めた村木は、自分は、あの時の男だと話した。自分のことを天使だという村木の言葉に揺れる名美だが、あの夜はヤクザに威されていたと嘘をつく。そして、タクシーに乗ったところがヤクザの事務所であると。実は、そこは名美の会社の上司、太田の家であり、妻子がありながら二人は不倫の関係を持っていた。数日後、太田の妻が会社に現れ、名美を怒鳴りまくった。名美は村木に電話をして、あの夜の続きをしてほしいとせがんだ。あの時とは変ったという村木に、名美は威されているヤクザは太田という男で、写真や履歴書を取り返してくれと頼む。名美の嘘を信じた村木は太田のマンションに押し入り、事情が分らない太田の妻は、興信所の報告書を渡した。二年前と同じホテルで村木は名美を待った。二人は激しく体を合せるが、心は離れていった。村木は名美の嘘を知るが、それを許した。名美が目覚めた時、村木は消えていた。名美は村木のアパートに行くが、そこも空室となっていた。悄然と立ち去る名美の横を村木の妻、良子が通り過ぎた。良子も村木が姿を消したことを知らないのだ。二人の女は、一瞬、立ち止まり、顔を見合わせると、それぞれの方向へ歩き出した。

Shot at a vertiginous pace throughout a few years, self‐produced between arrivals, departures and coming‐backs, “It’s the Earth not the Moon” develops as the logbook of a ship, and turns out as a patchwork of discoveries and experiences, which follow the contemporary life of a civilization isolated in the middle of the sea. A long atlantic film‐odissey, divided in 14 chapters, that combines anthropological records, literature, lost archives, mythological and autobiographical stories.
