孤児院で育ったラウラ（ベレン・ルエダ）は、長らく閉鎖されていたその孤児院を買い取り、障害を持つ子どもたちのホームとして再建しようと夫のカルロス（フェルナンド・カヨ）、息子のシモン（ロジェール・プリンセプ）とともに移り住んでいた。だが、シモンは遊び相手のいない寂しさから空想上の友だちを作って遊ぶようになり、その姿にラウラは不安を覚える。そして入園希望者を集めたパーティーの日、シモンはこつ然と姿を消してしまい……。

「デスペラード」「フロム・ダスク・ティル・ドーン」のロバート・ロドリゲスと、「スクリーム」の脚本家ケヴィン・ウィリアムソンが組んだSFスリラー。気弱な少年ケイシーは、ある日、グラウンドで奇妙な生き物を見つける。その生き物を水槽に入れた時、その生き物は変形し、攻撃的な本性を露にした。やがて、ケイシーはやたらに水を欲しがる辺りの人達のおかしな行動に気づく。「あの生物が人間に寄生しているかもしれない」と感じたケイシーは、仲間と共に学園の調査を開始。そこで、取り付かれた先生が保険医を襲う場面に遭遇する……。
