サーカス団のメス象、ジャンボが授かった子象はダンボと名付けられるが、他の象よりも大きい耳を持っていたため、象仲間たちから仲間外れにされてしまう。そんなダンボの友達になったネズミのティモシーは彼をなぐさめようと、ダンボに空を飛んでみるよう勧める。空を飛べるようになったダンボは、たちまちサーカスの人気者になる。
