働きアリのジーは体力がないのにトンネル工事につかされており、自分の望む道は他にあると夢想していた。ある日、コロニーの王女バーラと偶然バーで出会ったジーは彼女に一目ぼれ。彼女に会いたい一心で、ジーは親友の兵士アリ、ウィーバーと入れ替わり閲兵式に出席する。ところがその場でジーは精鋭部隊の兵士として選ばれ、凶暴な白アリ軍との戦いに駆り出されてしまう。

マンハッタンの豪邸に住み、高級車を乗り回し、おまけにハンサム。完璧な人生を謳歌する出版界の若き実力者デヴィッド・エイムス。ジュリーという美しい恋人もいて、何不自由ないはずが、どこか物足りなさを感じていた。そんなある日、デヴィッドは親友の恋人ソフィアに一目惚れしてしまう。しかし、デヴィッドの心変わりを敏感に察したジュリーは、嫉妬に駆られて自ら運転する車でデヴィッドとともに崖に突っ込んでしまう。奇跡的に一命を取りとめたデヴィッドだったが、その顔は怪我のために見るも無惨に変わり果ててしまう。

ロサンジェルスで保険の調査員をしていたレナード。ある日、何者かが家に侵入し、妻がレイプされたうえ殺害されてしまう。その光景を目撃してしまったレナードはショックで前向性健忘となってしまう。彼は記憶を消さないためポラロイドにメモを書き、体にタトゥーを刻みながら犯人の手掛かりを追っていく……。 前向性健忘（発症以前の記憶はあるものの、それ以降は数分前の出来事さえ忘れてしまう症状）という記憶障害に見舞われた男が、最愛の妻を殺した犯人を追う異色サスペンス。
