1821年、ラス・カリフォルニアスの最後のアルタ・カリフォルニア総督であったラファエル・モンテロは民衆の不満が高まりサンタ・アナ率いる革命軍の侵攻が迫る中、農民の処刑を餌に覆面の剣士怪傑ゾロを捕らえようとしたがゾロを英雄視する農民たちによって妨げられる。予てからスペイン貴族ディエゴ・デラ・ベガがゾロの正体ではないかと目を付けていたモンテロはディエゴ邸を襲う。ディエゴは捕らえられ、妻は殺され、幼い娘エレナはモンテロに奪われてしまう。

Throw in two(!) lovely blondes, treachery, and a battle for life and honour, and enjoy life at its zaniest.
