Sergeant Studer (1939)

1943年、ロシア戦線。ソ連軍との戦闘が激化し、撤退を余儀なくされていくドイツ軍の小隊長シュナイター伍長は、勲章を手に入れることしか興味のない無能な指揮官のシュトランスキー大尉を嫌悪していた。2人の関係が険悪になっていくなか、シュトランスキーは勲章を得るため、シュナイターの部隊を策略にかける。

１９４２年、ソロモン諸島。アメリカ軍は日本軍の駐留するガダルカナル島を、太平洋戦争の重要な拠点と見なしその占拠を図った。ウィット二等兵（ジム・カヴィーゼル）やウェルシュ曹長（ショーン・ペン）をはじめとするアメリカ陸軍Ｃ中隊の面々も作戦に参加、彼らを乗せた上陸用舟艇は美しい南洋の孤島に次々と上陸していく。だが一歩ジャングルの奥に足を踏み入れると、そこは紛うことなき戦場であった……。
