A group of protesters, from all around Lithuania, gather at the Television Tower to protect it from approaching Soviet tanks and paratroopers.
「ライトスタッフ」で一躍有名になったP・カウフマンが68年のチェコ動乱、いわゆる“プラハの春”を題材にして描いた超大作。若者の間に芽生えた民主化要求の波がソ連軍の軍事介入で圧殺されていく中、プレイボーイの医師と二人の女の青春が鮮烈に描かれる。古いニュース・フィルムと本編の画調を完璧に合わせるという離れ技を、ベルイマン作品で鳴らした名カメラマン、スヴェン・ニクヴィストが見事にやってのけている。
1942年、ミュンヘン出身の若い女性ユンゲはヒトラーの個人秘書の職を得る。それから月日は流れて1945年、第2次世界大戦は大詰めを迎え、ヒトラーはごく限られた身内や腹心の部下たちとベルリンのドイツ首相官邸の地下要塞に逃げ、そこで不自由な生活を送る。敗北の気配が濃くなる中、ヒトラーはまだ反撃のシナリオを熱っぽく語るが次第に部下たちは彼から離反していき、ユンゲは歴史の証人としてその光景を静かに見守る。
タイのバンコクでひっそりと暮らすベトナム帰還兵ランボーのもとに、以前の上官トラウトマン大佐が到着し、アフガニスタンに潜入する任務を手伝うよう依頼してくる。一度は断わったランボーだが、代わりにアフガンへ向かった大佐が現地でソ連軍に拉致されてしまったと聞き、自分もアフガンへ。そこで地元の反ソ・ゲリラ、ムジャヒディンたちと協力し合いながら、大佐の救出を目指す。

Between 1944–1953, courageous resistance movement took place in the Baltic region of Europe, uniting the partisan troops for struggle against the Soviet Union. “The Invisible Front” was a coded name used by the Soviet Interior forces to describe the resistance movement in Lithuania. Film depicts the story of the fighters through the words and experience of the partisan leader, Juozas Luksa, and interviews with eyewitnesses of those events - both the partisans and the Soviet fighters. Tales of horror, torture and courage are told in the rare archival footage that has never been screened before, and interviews with the surviving members of the resistance movement.
War correspondent Lopatin takes a 20-day-leave from his hard work at the front in 1942. He travels to faraway Tashkent to meet the family of the killed soldier and visit the film set of the screen adaptation of his war-time stories. Lopatin also manages to walk the streets of Tashkent, take part in a factory workers' meeting and have a short-lived love affair. Although with no bombings and fighting, the city dwellers breathe the atmosphere of the ongoing war.

Joseph Vilsmaier Two-part TV movie focuses on the tragic events surrounding the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff, a German passenger ship, at the end of World War II. On 30 January 1945, Captain Hellmuth Kehding was in charge of the ship, evacuating wounded soldiers and civilians trapped by the Red Army. Soon after leaving the harbor of Danzig, it was hit by three torpedoes from the Soviet submarine and sank in less than an hour.
