ニューヨークに住むパプキンは人気コメディアン、ジェリー・ラングフォードの大ファン。ある日、やはり熱狂的なラングフォード・ファンであるマーシャと知り合い、2人で大胆な作戦をくわだてる。なんとラングフォードを誘拐し、替わりにパプキンがTVショーに出演しようというのだ。ラングフォードを縛りあげ、TV局に向かうパプキンだが……。
