潜入捜査中に亡くなった刑事ニック。だが、生前の刑事としての活躍や経歴を見込まれて、成仏できずに現世に紛れ込んでいる悪霊たちを逮捕しては霊界に送還する組織R.I.P.D.のエージェントにスカウトされる。1800年代からエージェントを務めている大ベテランのロイとコンビを組み、次々と悪霊を捕まえていくニック。その後、二人は霊界へと通じているトンネルから悪霊たちを現世に逆流させるという陰謀が進められていることを逮捕者から聞き出す。

パリで開かれた学会に出席した米人医師とその妻。しかし、妻が突然何者かに誘拐されてしまったことから、医師は言葉の通じないパリを奔走し、妻の行方を追う。
