かつてこの地で魔女狩りが行なわれたという言い伝えのある町、ブライス・ホロー。この町に住む少年ノーマンは、死者たちと話せる特殊能力を持っていたが、そのせいで周囲からは変人扱いされ、家でも学校でもたえず居心地の悪い想いを味わっていた。そんなある日ノーマンは、ブレンダーガストおじさんから奇妙な話を聞かされる。それは、300年前に封印された魔女の魂が悪霊を呼び、町を滅ぼそうとしているというものだった。

遭難し、無人島にたったひとりでいた青年ハンクは自殺しようとするが、波打ち際に漂着した男性の遺体を発見。遺体が、中から外にガスを勢いよく吹き出しているのを見たハンクは、男性をジェットスキー代わりにして別の陸地に辿り着くことに成功する。ハンクは男性をメニーと名付けて語り掛けるようになり、他人には会えない中、やはりいくつもの窮地でメニーに救われていく。やがてハンクはメニーに対して友情を感じるようになる。
