1930年代、大恐慌下のアメリカ。身寄りのない少女アニーは、児童養護施設に暮らしながら、いつか両親が迎えに来ることを信じていた。そんなある日、施設に大富豪ウォーバックスの秘書というグレースが現われる。ウォーバックスは、世間から金の亡者と批判されがちな悪いイメージを改善するため、週末に施設の子どもをひとり屋敷に招こうというのだ。グレースは、一目見るなり気に入ったアニーを招待客に選ぶ。
