最愛の母が末期がんで余命を宣告され、ショックと不安を隠し切れない13歳の少年コナー。厳格な祖母とは反りが合わず、学校でもいじめられて孤立する彼は、ここ最近、毎夜悪夢にうなされていた。ある晩、不気味な大木の怪物が彼の前に現われ、「これから俺が3つの真実の物語を話そう。4つ目の真実の物語は、お前が話すんだ」と告げる。かくして、怪物とコナーの間で、摩訶不思議な物語が夜ごと繰り広げられることとなる。
