Clavius, a powerful Roman military tribune, and his aide, Lucius, are tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus in the weeks following the crucifixion, in order to disprove the rumors of a risen Messiah and prevent an uprising in Jerusalem.

ヴァージニア州の町で生まれ育ったデズモンド・ドスは、第２次世界大戦が激化し周囲の人々が次々出征する中、彼は人を殺さず助けるならと衛生兵として陸軍に志願する。厳しい訓練には耐えていたが、銃に触れることを断固拒絶し上官と兵士たちの嫌がらせが始まる。恋人ドロシーとの結婚式の日、銃の訓練を終了せねば休暇は許可しないと言われ、命令拒否として軍法会議にかけられるが最終的に主張は認められる。1945年、沖縄。「ハクソー・リッジ」に到着した第77師団の兵士たちだったが武器を持たない彼はには過酷な戦いが待ち受けていた。

警官相手に戦い服役中だったランボーは、元上官トラウトマンから特殊任務に就くことを条件に釈放された。特殊任務とは、ベトナム戦争で行方不明になったアメリカ人兵士と捕虜の動向を調査すること。戦闘は一切不要で、情報収集だけの任務だった。ところが捕虜収容所で米兵の拷問を目撃したランボーは、指令に背いて米兵を救出。その後、彼らは国境近くまで逃げ延びるが、米軍のヘリコプターはふたりを見殺しにして去ってしまう。

スタンリー・キューブリック監督が、G・ハスフォードの原作を基にベトナム戦争の狂気を描く。徴兵された若者が、次第に戦闘マシーンとして人間性を失っていく様を二部構成で描く。 ベトナム戦争の時代、ジェイムズ（愛称ジョーカー）は、サウスカロライナの海兵新兵訓練キャンプ（ブートキャンプ）で、ハートマン軍曹による厳しい訓練を受ける。新兵たちの中で落ちこぼれの「ほほえみデブ」ことレナードは、徹底的なしごきの中で徐々に正気を失っていく…。 新兵訓練を卒業し海兵隊員となったジョーカーは、テト攻勢が始まる中、軍の報道部員としてフエ市街の前線取材を命じられる。だが、交戦の中で小隊長が戦死、分隊長をブービートラップで失う。下士官が指揮を引き継ぎ転進を図るも進路を誤り、今度は狙撃兵の襲撃を受ける。残されたジョーカーは狙撃兵への復讐を図るのだが…。

The wife of a Marine serving in Vietnam, Sally Hyde decides to volunteer at a local veterans hospital to occupy her time. There she meets Luke Martin, a frustrated wheelchair-bound vet who has become disillusioned with the war. Sally and Luke develop a friendship that soon turns into a romance.

第2次世界大戦当時、経営管理の理論を米軍の戦略に応用するマクナマラの報告書は、日本への無差別爆撃を促し、マクナマラは自分が戦争犯罪を行なったと認める。85歳になったマクナマラは自分の人生で得た11の教訓を語る。“敵の身になって考えよ”、“理性は助けにならない”、“戦争は釣り合いが必要”、“人間の本質は変えられない”など。さらに彼はケネディ政権、ジョンソン政権などについて知られざる事実を明かす。

The film is notable for presenting a more human Jesus, compared to more solemn portrayals in earlier films; here Jesus laughs and cries like anyone else. Among other things, he weeps at Joseph’s funeral, throws stones in Lake Galilee when meeting Simon Peter and James son of Zebedee for the first time, dances at the wedding at Cana, and starts a water-splashing fight with his disciples as well. Satan is portrayed as a man in modern dress (and as a woman in red). During his temptation of Jesus, he shows him the Earth from the vantage point of space. Satan also shows Jesus images of wars and destruction carried out in his name. The film adds an apocryphal Roman historian named “Livio” who watches and comments as events unfold; he is presumably named after Livy.

When a high school teacher is asked a question in class about Jesus, her reasoned response lands her in deep trouble and could expel God from the public square once and for all.

Pennsylvania, 1993. After getting caught with another girl, teenager Cameron Post is sent to a conversion therapy center run by the strict Dr. Lydia Marsh and her brother, Reverend Rick, whose treatment consists in repenting for feeling “same sex attraction.” Cameron befriends fellow sinners Jane and Adam, thus creating a new family to deal with the surrounding intolerance.
