シノプシス
America in the mid-1980s. In the midst of the AIDS crisis and a conservative Reagan administration, New Yorkers grapple with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell. This new staging of Tony Kushner's multi-award winning two-part play, Angels In America: A Gay Fantasia On National Themes, is directed by Olivier and Tony award winning director Marianne Elliott.
An enigmatic actress may have a hidden agenda when she auditions for a part in a misogynistic writer's play.
16世紀末のロンドン。スランプに陥っていた劇作家シェイクスピアはオーディションにやって来た一人の若者トマス・ケントを追ってとある屋敷へたどり着く。そこには以前、芝居の最中に目を留めた美しい女性ヴァイオラの姿があった。シェイクスピアと彼を信奉するヴァイオラはたちまち恋におちてしまう。燃え上がる恋心が創作意欲をかき立てたのか、シェイクスピアの台本は急ピッチで仕上がって行き、トマス・ケントを主役とした芝居の稽古も順調に進んでいた。ヴォイオラの別れの手紙をトマスから受け取ったシェイクスピアは納得できず再びトマスの後を追うのだが、そこで彼はトマスこそヴァイオラの男装した姿だった事を知るのだった。
シュレックとフィオナは、沼のほとりの小屋には戻らず、遠い遠い王国で蛙の姿に戻り、病に伏せるハロルド国王の代理として騎士叙任や新造船の進水式、パーティへの出席に明け暮れる。面倒で慣れない行事に苦戦し、うんざりしていたシュレックだったが、フィオナの父であるハロルド国王の症状が悪化し、逝去してしまう。王位は自分に相応しくないと思ったシュレックは、ハロルド国王が言い残したもう一人の王位継承者、フィオナの従兄弟のアーサーを連れてくるべく、ドンキーとドラゴンの子供達や妊娠したフィオナに見送られ、ドンキーや長靴をはいた猫と旅に出る。
ロンドンの劇場で劇作家のジェームズ・バリは新作の『リトル・メアリー』の初日を迎えていた。しかし、観客の反応は芳しくなく、翌日の新聞でも、酷評されてしまう。失意の中で日課の散歩に出かけるジェームズ・バリは公園で父親を亡くしたショックから夢や希望を持てなくなっていた少年ピーターとその家族に出会う。ジェームズは、兄を亡くして早く大人になろうとした少年時代の自分をピーターに重ね、励ましていく。やがて彼らとの交流から着想を得たジェームズは、新しい劇に取りかかる。
舞台俳優であり、演出家の家福悠介。彼は、脚本家の妻・音と満ち足りた日々を送っていた。しかし、妻はある秘密を残したまま突然この世からいなくなってしまう――。２年後、演劇祭で演出を任されることになった家福は、愛車のサーブで広島へと向かう。そこで出会ったのは、寡黙な専属ドライバーみさきだった。喪失感を抱えたまま生きる家福は、みさきと過ごすなか、それまで目を背けていたあることに気づかされていく…
