シカゴ郊外の刑務所（ジョリエット刑務所）を出所したジョリエット・ジェイクと、彼を迎えに来た弟のエルウッドは、兄弟を育ててくれた孤児院に出所の挨拶に行くが、そこで、孤児院が5000ドルの税金を払えないため立ち退きの瀬戸際にあることを知る。孤児院の危機を救うため援助を申し出る二人だが、犯罪で得た汚れた金は要らないと逆に院長に追い払われてしまう。
