製作した曲が映画に採用された恋人のデイヴとともにイギリスからニューヨークへやってきたシンガーソングライターのグレタだったが、デイヴの浮気により彼と別れて、友人のスティーヴを頼る。スティーブは失意のグレタを励まそうとライブバーに連れていき、彼女を無理やりステージに上げる。グレタが歌っていたところ、偶然その場に居合わせた落ち目の音楽プロデューサー・ダンの目に留まる。ダンはグレタに一緒にアルバムを作ろうと持ち掛ける。
