「特捜部Q」――過去の未解決事件を専門に扱うコペンハーゲン警察の新部署である。「Q」が今回挑むのは、80年代に起こったナイトクラブのマダムの失踪事件。調査によるとほぼ同時に5人もの行方不明者が出ているという。カール警部補は大事件の匂いを嗅ぎつけ捜査に着手。やがて、壮絶な過去を持つひとりの老女と新進政党の関係者が捜査線上に浮かび上がってくるのだが……。
