恋愛小説「ミザリー」シリーズのベストセラー作家ポールは純文学に転向しようと、シリーズの主人公の女性ミザリーの死をもってシリーズを完結させる。山中のロッジで私小説第1作を書き上げた彼は吹雪の中、家路を目指すが、車は事故に遭い、彼も重傷を負う。そんなポールは近くに住む元看護師アニーに救われるが、彼女は「ミザリー」の熱狂的ファン。彼を手厚く看護してやるが、出版された「ミザリー」最終刊を読むと豹変する。
