これまでにもシャイクスピア作品の映画化を手掛けているケネス・ブラナーが、長年熱望してきた『ハムレット』に挑んだ歴史ドラマ。自ら監督、脚本、主演の３役をこなし、すべてのセリフをカットすることなく４時間を超える長尺で絢爛豪華に描ききる。オフィーリア役は「日蔭のふたり」のケイト・ウィンスレット。デンマーク国王が急死し、国王の弟クローディアスが即位する。しかしある晩、王子ハムレットの前に国王の亡霊が現われ、すべてはクローディアスの陰謀だと告げる。復讐を誓ったハムレットは愛するオフィーリアにさえ心を閉ざしてしまう。

シェイクスピア史劇を、ローレンス・オリヴィエの再来ともいわれるケネス・ブラナーが監督・主演で映像化した作品。15世紀前半、百年戦争の最中にあったイギリス・ヘンリー5世の活躍を描く。

In this Shakespearean farce, Hero and her groom-to-be, Claudio, team up with Claudio's commanding officer, Don Pedro, the week before their wedding to hatch a matchmaking scheme.
