ある男を探してゲイクラブへ押し入る2人組。彼らは男を見つけ出すと凄惨な暴力を加える。発端はあるパーティの夜。マルキュスは会場に残り婚約者アレックスを一人で帰してしまう。その直後、アレックスはレイプに遭い、激しい暴行を受けてしまうのだった。自責の念に駆られるマルキュス。彼は友人でアレックスの元恋人のピエールとともに犯人探しを開始する。やがて、女装ゲイ、ヌネスを探し出した2人は、ヌネスからついにテニアという男の名を聞き出すのだった…。＜邦題はモニカ・ベルッチ演じる主人公の名前。原題は「ひっくり返せない、不可逆、取り返しがつかない」を意味するフランス語で、いくつかの文字が裏返されている。シークエンスは後に起こったものが先にあり、時系列的には最初のシーンがラストに示される。また、エンドロールが冒頭で逆回しされ、クレジットの文字R/E/Nが鏡文字となっている。およそ9分にわたるレイプシーンの描写は評価がわかれた。＞

Warren Stacy, an office equipment repairman, begins murdering women after they reject his advances. The story, set in 1885, follows a British officer (Heath Ledger) who resigns his post when he learns of his regiment's plan to ship out to the Sudan for the conflict with the Mahdi. His friends and fiancée send him four white feathers which symbolize cowardice. To redeem his honor he disguises himself as an Arab and secretly saves the lives of those who branded him a coward.
