The Leader, His Driver, and the Driver's Wife (1991)

1982年、南アフリカ共和国のヨハネスブルク上空に突如宇宙船が出現した。しかし、上空で静止した巨大な宇宙船からは応答や乗員が降りる様子はなく、人類は宇宙船に乗船しての調査を行うことを決定。知的生命体との接触に世界中の期待が集まる中行われた調査であったが、船内に侵入した調査隊が発見したのは、支配層の死亡と宇宙船の故障により難民となった大量のエイリアンであった。 乗船していたエイリアンたちは地上に移り、隔離地区である「第9地区」で難民として、MNU (英：Multi-National United) と呼ばれる超国家機関による管理・監視のもとで生活することになったが、文化や外見の違いから人間とエイリアン達との間では小競り合いが頻発する。人間達のエイリアンへの反発や差別は強まり、やがて彼等に対しては「エビ」（外見がエビ[=PRAWN]に似ているため）という蔑称が定着するようになった。 そして宇宙船出現から28年後、ついにエビ達を新たに用意された彼ら専用の居住区域である第10地区に移住させることが決定し、MNUの職員であるヴィカスは、立ち退き要請の同意を得るため第9地区を訪れるが、エイリアンの家で見つけた謎の液体を不注意により浴びてしまう。

In the early to mid '90s, when the South African system of apartheid was in its death throes, four photographers - Greg Marinovich, Kevin Carter, Ken Oosterbroek and João Silva - bonded by their friendship and a sense of purpose, worked together to chronicle the violence and upheaval leading up to the 1994 election of Nelson Mandela as president. Their work is risky and dangerous, potentially fatally so, as they thrust themselves into the middle of chaotic clashes between forces backed by the government (including Inkatha Zulu warriors) and those in support of Mandela's African National Congress.

南アフリカ人のティム・ジェンキンは、白人でありながら反アパルトヘイト組織「アフリカ民族会議」の隠密作戦をおこなった罪のより、同胞のスティーブン・リーとともにプレトリア刑務所に投獄される。ティム、スティーブンたちは、自由と平等を手にするため、最高警備を誇る刑務所からの脱獄を決意する。さまざまな脱獄方法を模索した結果、ティムたちが最後に選んだ手段は木片を集めた鍵を使った脱獄だった。鍵を作っては解錠を繰り返し、徐々に出口までの鍵が完成していった。投獄から18カ月、彼らは木鍵による鉄製扉の突破を試みる。

アメリカ・ミシシッピ州。1960年代当時、白人家庭でメイドとして働く黒人女性は“ヘルプ”と呼ばれていた。作家志望のスキーター（エマ・ストーン）はメイドの置かれた立場に疑問を抱き、彼女たちにインタビューをすることに。仕事を失うことを恐れて、皆が口をつぐむ中、一人の女性の勇気が社会を揺るがすことになる。

1970年代初頭、まだ人種差別が大きな問題となっていたアメリカで実際にあったエピソードを基にしたスポーツ・ヒューマン・ドラマ。1971年、バージニア州。とある町で白人の高校と黒人の高校が統合されることになる。その結果、両校にそれぞれあったフットボール・チームも1つに統合されることとなった。人種差別が根強い地元住民が反発するなか、アメリカ初の人種混成チームが誕生、さまざまな苦難を乗り越え、チームはひとつにまとまっていく……。

A journalist goes in search of the truth after a series of brutal deaths and disappearances lead back to an urban legend about a serial killing clown that has stalked the woods of Century Park for over a hundred years.

Based on the true life experiences of poet Jimmy Santiago Baca, the film focuses on half-brothers Paco and Cruz, and their bi-racial cousin Miklo. It opens in 1972, as the three are members of an East L.A. gang known as the "Vatos Locos", and the story focuses on how a violent crime and the influence of narcotics alter their lives. Miklo is incarcerated and sent to San Quentin, where he makes a "home" for himself. Cruz becomes an exceptional artist, but a heroin addiction overcomes him with tragic results. Paco becomes a cop and an enemy to his "carnal", Miklo.

Two brothers — one a narcotics agent and the other a general — finally discover the identity of the drug lord who murdered their parents decades ago. They may kill each other before capturing the bad guys.

Articles of clothes and her cross sail through the air; the tree - entirely dominating the screen - sways rhythmically and repeatedly. Three NYC stories at a climax. Stories about breaking up, losing, leaving, giving away... the things or people you love, you live with, you depend on, which formed your past... The stories are about how difficult this is, how terrifying and how frightening. Yet, you HAVE to do what you have to do. The three girls are met at the turning point of their lives. The film is wonderful written, with few words and a great, exciting pace (though it takes its time and lot of it). Stop: there may be a lot of words, sometimes, but what's important is between-the-lines. The performances are marvellous. Style and location (all shot "on location") remind of this specific independent NYC style of Jarmusch, Poe, Seidelman, Silver, etc.
