大友克洋が製作総指揮と総監督を務めた、３話から成る劇場用オムニバス・アニメーション大作。遭難した宇宙船を舞台にした、大友の同名漫画を今敏が脚色したＳＦドラマ「彼女の想いで」。誤って実験用の薬を飲んだ男が巻き起こす一大パニックを描くブラック・コメディ「最臭兵器」。大砲を撃つための街に暮らす少年の日々を綴る大友監督作「大砲の街」。いずれもセンス・オブ・ワンダーに彩られた奇妙な味わいが特徴となっている。

Ａ・タルコフスキーの作品は様々な映像の断片がコラージュされたようなものばかりである。この「鏡」もまたそうであり、彼の自伝的要素を持つというが、解るような解らないような……。でもその数々の映像はどれもこれもかっこ良く、戦争の記録フィルムらしきものも出てくる。物語などの存在は忘れてただひたすら映像の中で泳ぐような感覚で、なんとも美しい一本だ。

アニメ制作を志す女子高生3人組の青春を描き、2020年1月からは湯浅政明監督によるテレビアニメ版もNHKで放送された大童澄瞳の同名コミックを、人気アイドルグループ「乃木坂46」の齋藤飛鳥、山下美月、梅澤美波の共演で実写映画化。湖に面した芝浜高校。人見知りだが監督としてすぐれた素質をもつ浅草みどり、カリスマ読者モデルでアニメーターの水崎ツバメ、金もうけが好きなプロデューサー気質の金森さやかは、「映像研究同好会」を結成し、自分たちが思い描く“最強の世界”を描くためアニメーション制作を開始する。「アニメは設定が命！」が信条の主人公・浅草みどりを齋藤、俳優である両親に反対されながらもアニメーターを目指すお嬢様・水崎ツバメを山下、2人の才能をまとめ、管理し、金もうけをしようとするプロデューサータイプの金森さやかを梅澤が演じる。そのほか、小西桜子、福本莉子、桜田ひより、浜辺美波ら人気の若手女優も共演する。監督は「乃木坂46」とは映画「あさひなぐ」でもタッグを組んだ英勉。
