８年前、ゴッサム・シティの希望のためバットマンは町を去り、その正体であるブルース・ウェインは今も隠遁生活を送る。新たに作られたデント法のもと、平和になったゴッサム・シティだが、そこへ凶暴な悪党ベインとその一味が現われ大混乱となる。ベインは実は同じ師匠を持つ、ブルースの兄弟子だった。執事アルフレッドに去られ、ベインの陰謀で財産を失いながらも、ブルースは再びバットマンとなってベインに立ち向かう。

以前特殊部隊を率いていた元軍曹ジョゼフは、戦場で罪を犯したのをきっかけに、心に傷を抱えながらひっそりと暮らしていた。そんなある日、ただ一人打ち解けていた少女が誘拐されてしまい、彼女を救うためロンドンの暗黒街を突き進む。しかし、最悪な結末を迎え怒りを爆発させた彼は、リベンジを胸に誓う。
