第二次世界大戦の最中、人一倍愛国心に燃えるスティーブ・ロジャースは兵士に志願し国の為に尽くしたかったが背も低く虚弱な体から兵士として認められず悶々としていた。ある日知り合った戦略科学予備軍の科学者であるエイブラハム・アースキン博士にその愛国心と強く正しい心を認められスーパーソルジャー計画の候補として実験被験者として選ばれ、超人血清を打たれスティーブは屈強なほぼ不死身の超人として生まれ変わる。

天才科学者のリチャーズは、元恋人のスー、スーの弟でパイロットのジョニー、そして親友のベンとともに、宇宙に出て実験を行うことになった。だが事故により宇宙線を浴びて4人とも超能力を得てしまう。彼らはこの力を世のために役立てようと考え、スーパーヒーローチーム「ファンタスティック・フォー」を結成する。

1995年、ロサンゼルスのビデオショップに、突然正体不明の女性が空から降ってくる。彼女には驚くべきパワーが備わっていたが、全く覚えていない“記憶”がフラッシュバックすることが悩みだった。その記憶にはある秘密が隠されており、それを狙う敵がいた。彼女は、後にアベンジャーズを結成するニック・フューリーと共に戦いに身を投じることになる。

スーパーヒーローで編成された部隊アベンジャーズの一員として戦い、地球と人類を滅亡の危機から救ったアイアンマンことトニー・スターク。だが、アメリカ政府はスーパーヒーローが国の防衛を担うことを危険視するようになり、それを契機に彼はアイアンマンの新型スーツを開発することに没頭していく。そんな中、正体不明の敵によってスターク邸が破壊され、これまでのアイアンマンが全て爆破されてしまう。何もかも失ったスタークだが、人並み外れた頭脳を武器に孤独な戦いに挑む。

Embittered by Superman's heroic successes and soaring popularity, Lex Luthor forms a dangerous alliance with the powerful computer/villain Brainiac. Using advanced weaponry and a special strain of Kryptonite harvested from the far reaches of outer space, Luthor specifically redesigns Brainiac to defeat the Man of Steel.

誰もが知っているアメコミのヒーローを巨費を投じて復活させた超娯楽作。素朴な田舎を背景に少年時代のスーパーマンを描いた、郷愁に満ちた序盤からデイリー・プラネットの記者として活躍する本編に入っても、暖かみを伴った面白さは一瞬たりとも揺らぐ事は無く、悪の天才レックス・ルーサーの陰謀を食い止めるクライマックスまで一気に見せきる。
