A peasant without money or work, sells his soul to "El Garrudo" in order to get wealth and marry the young and beautiful Petita. Years later, Juan Maula and "El Garrudo" debate in a duel of "payas" (a singing and composing competition) , where the peasant's soul and his freedom will be the prize.
Elliot Richardson, a suicidal techno geek, is given seven wishes to turn his life around when he meets a very seductive Satan. The catch: his soul. Some of his wishes include a 7 foot basketball star, a rock star, and a hamburger. But, as could be expected, the Devil puts her own little twist on each of his fantasies.

Over that time, Jabez pays off his debts and helps many neighboring farmers, then becomes an advocate for the upstanding Sen. Daniel Webster. When Jabez's contract with Mr. Scratch concludes, he desperately turns to Webster to represent him in a trial for his soul.

11年に一度の祭りを目前に、活気づく正十字学園町。その陰では祓魔師たちが総出で悪魔の討伐に奔走していた。燐は幽霊列車（ファントムトレイン）討伐の任に当たっていたが、その途中で古い祠を損壊させ、封印されていた悪魔を解放してしまう。責任を取るため、燐はその悪魔を「うさ麻呂」と名付け、自室に置いて監視することとなった。当初こそ衝突した燐とうさ麻呂だったが、生活を共にする中で徐々に打ち解け、いつしか兄弟のように親しくなっていく。
