天下一武道会の賞金の取立てを行いにミスター・サタン宅には18号たちが訪れていた。散々取立てを行ってもまだ賞金が届いていないと言い張るサタンの下にジャガー・バッダ男爵の使い・メンメンが現れる。サタンのために用意した戦士と戦えという要求に対していやいやジャガーの下へ向かうサタン。しかし、人造人間18号や同じ場にいた孫悟天、トランクスも付いて行ってしまう。 サタンの弟子として何故か戦うことになった18号たちだが、ジャガーの準備した戦士など彼女らの敵ではなくバイオ戦士たちを一蹴してしまう。その後、見慣れない施設群に興味津々の悟天たちだったが、そこでサイヤ人と思われる一体のバイオ戦士のカプセルを発見、中にいた戦士がこちらを向いた瞬間に悟天たちは驚愕した。それは前回の戦いで死亡したブロリーのクローン、バイオブロリーだった。 バイオカプセルから出てしまう前にバイオブロリーをカプセルごと破壊しようと試みるも、バイオブロリーは自らカプセルを破り外に出てきてしまう。もはやかつての面影のない不気味な様相となっていたバイオブロリーに、18号が戦いを挑むもバイオブロリーの強さに太刀打ちできずにやられてしまう。 2度も同じ相手にやられてたまるかと、悟天とトランクスは超サイヤ人に変身し、バイオブロリーとの戦いに挑む。
物語の始まりは、テレビスペシャル『ドラゴンボールZ たったひとりの最終決戦〜フリーザに挑んだZ戦士 孫悟空の父〜』で描かれたサイヤ人の故郷である惑星ベジータ崩壊の時まで遡る。
サイヤ人の中から伝説の超サイヤ人が現れ、いずれ自分の脅威となることを危惧したフリーザは、惑星ベジータもろともサイヤ人を皆殺しにしようとしていた。ただ1人そのことに気付いたバーダックは単身フリーザに挑むも返り討ちにされてしまう。ちょうどその頃、惑星ベジータからバーダックの息子・カカロット（後の孫悟空）を乗せた宇宙ポッドが辺境惑星に発射されていた。フリーザの兄であるクウラ一味はその一部始終を映像で見ていたが、地区を任されたフリーザの不注意でポッドを見落とした以上、弟自身が始末をつけるべきとして見逃した。
その20数年後、フリーザがサイヤ人に敗れたことを知ったクウラは、そのサイヤ人を滅ぼすためにクウラ機甲戦隊を引き連れて地球へと向かうのだった。
一方フリーザを撃退し、無事地球に帰還した孫悟空とその仲間たちは、山へキャンプに出かけていた。そこへ突如襲いくるクウラ機甲戦隊と戦う悟空だったが、一瞬の隙を突かれてクウラの光線を受けて息子の孫悟飯と共に滝つぼに沈み、悟空は重傷を負ってしまう。父を救うため、カリン様から仙豆をもらった悟飯は、機甲戦隊の猛攻に遭いながらもピッコロの助力を得て無事仙豆を届ける。しかし仲間のクリリンともども、機甲戦隊のサウザーに倒され、ピッコロでさえもクウラにやられてしまう。
無事全快した悟空は、ついにクウラと激突する。しかし、弟フリーザより1回多く変身できるクウラの最終形態に成す術が無い。その時、悟空の怒りが限界を超え、ついに悟空が超サイヤ人に目覚める。
NYに生まれ育ったチャーリーは定職も持たず、どっちつかずの生活を送るチンピラ。そして、彼の親友ジョニー・ボーイも酒や女、博打の借金に追われていた。チャーリーは彼をかばい続けるのだが……。
