1960年代のデトロイト。ライブハウスでディーナ、エフィ、ローレルの「ドリーメッツ」がライブハウスの出演を賭けてオーディションを受けていた。その三人に目をつけたのが中古車ディーラーでジェームス“サンダー”アーリーのプロデューサーであるカーティス・テイラー・ジュニアだった。彼はジミーの女癖の悪さからバックコーラスを失い、探していたのだがドリーメッツの声を聞き、週500ドルで彼女たちを雇う。
