１７歳のブルジョアの少女が父レイモンに新たに出来た恋人アンヌ（カー）が母となる現実を受容できず、それまでの若い愛人エルザ（ドモンジョ）と共謀して、父と彼女との仲をアンヌに見せつけて別れさせようとする。ところが絶望に車を駆って去るアンヌは運転を誤って崖から落ちて死んでしまう。一年前の出来事だった。今は陽光明るい夏のリヴィエラにいても、少女の世界は晴れることなどないと思われる惨めな悲しみに満ちていた。

くじ引きによりフランス・カンヌのビーチへの旅行とビデオカメラを当てたMr.ビーンだがリヨン駅のカンヌ行列車の前で男に撮影を手伝ってもらったところ、その男を置き去りにしてしまう。列車内には既に男の息子であるステパンが乗車しており、ステパンにカメラを奪われたことでビーンは荷物を失い次の駅で降ろされてしまう。ステパンの父はカンヌ国際映画祭で審査員を務める映画監督・エミールだった。

ロンドンの新聞社に勤めるアイリスは、元恋人の婚約発表現場に居合わせることになり、ショックで落ち込んでいた。一方、ロサンゼルスで映画の予告編製作会社を経営するアマンダは、同棲中の恋人と派手にケンカ別れしたばかり。それぞれ傷心を抱えた2人は、“ホーム・エクスチェンジ”のwebサイトを介して知り合い、クリスマスホリデイ期間だけお互いの家を交換して、異国の地で心のリフレッシュを図ることにする。

主人公のジョージという男は、いつも何処かでツキに見放され、逆境にばかり立ち向かう運命にあった。自分のミスではなく大金を失った彼は、全てに絶望して自殺を図る。ところが、12月の冷たい河に飛び降りようとしたとき、彼より先に一人の男が身を投げて救けてくれと叫んだ。あわてて救けたジョージに、男は、自分は見習い天使だと告げるが……。

Caroline and Lloyd are a married couple constantly at each other's throats, masters at crafting acid-tongued barbs at the other's expense. Not wanting to leave Lloyd and Caroline unattended, Gus opts to attend the party, pretending to be the couple's marriage counselor. This naturally leads to a series of comic confusions, as the hostage crisis and marital tensions head towards their inevitable conclusion.
