1966年イギリス。まだイギリスに民放ラジオが存在せずポピュラーミュージックの放送が制限されていた時代に、北海からロック音楽を流して人気を集めていた「海賊ラジオ局」を取り巻く若者と政府を描く。ドラッグと喫煙で高校を退学になったカール（トム・スターリッジ）は、更正を望む母の提案で、母の旧友クエンティン（ビル・ナイ）のいる船に乗船。その船は、アメリカ出身のザ・カウント（フィリップ・シーモア・ホフマン）ら、クールなDJたちがロックの取締りをもくろむ政府の目を盗み、24時間ロックを流し続ける海賊ラジオ局だった。

When disc jockey Grant Mazzy reports to his basement radio station in the Canadian town of Pontypool, he thinks it's just another day at work.
