1862年のロンドン。気象学者のジェームズは天気を予測できると考えていたが、学会では荒唐無稽と誰にも相手にされず、それを証明するための実験を行う資金も集まらなかった。そんな中、気球操縦士のアメリアと出会ったジェームズは、彼女に大空に連れて行ってほしいと頼み込む。夫を亡くした悲しみから立ち直れずにいたアメリアは、ためらいつつもジェームズの依頼を受け入れ、高度の世界記録への挑戦を決意する。こうして誰も到達したことのない高高度を目指して、危険な冒険へと旅立つジェームズとアメリアだったが…。
原作はイギリスの作家ウィリアム・ゴールディングの同名小説。監督はピーター・ブルック。出演はジェームズ・オーブリーとヒュー・エドワーズ。無人島に漂着した少年たちの、次第に露わにされていく人間の本質を描く。理性と秩序、残虐と狂気の狭間にゆれる少年たちの本性とは。イギリスが原子爆弾の攻撃を受けたため、陸軍幼年学校の生徒たちは飛行機で疎開先へと向かうことに。が、その途中で飛行機にトラブルが発生、無人島に漂着する。救出を待とうとする理知的な少年ラーフと、豚を狩り生き延びようとするジャックとのグループに分かれて対立する少年たち。やがて、苛酷な環境と過ぎ去る時間と共に秩序が乱れてゆく…。少年たちの内に秘めた本能が目覚め、狂気に駆られた凄惨なゲームが始まる。

Capturing Avatar is a feature length behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Avatar.
