Custer of the West (1967)

スー族の前に全滅した、第七騎兵隊を率いるカスター将軍の半生記。士官学校への入学に始まり、南北戦争を経て、リトル・ビッグ・ホーンで部隊が全滅するまでを描く。 1857年、米国陸軍士官学校に入学したカスターは、開校以来の問題児だったが、戦士としての才能はあった。南北戦争が勃発し、北軍として出兵した彼は、勇敢な戦いぶりでやがて将軍にまで昇進。凱旋したカスターは、恋人リビーと結婚したが、退役軍人の生活に飽き足らず、ダコタのリンカーン砦(とりで)にある第七騎兵隊の指揮官となるが…。

幼い頃に両親を殺されたジャックは、インディアンに育てられた。彼は、身は小さいが勇気があり、他の仲間から“小さな巨人”と呼ばれるまでになった。やがて彼は、騎兵隊との戦闘で捕らえられ、その後は白人社会で生活するようになる。それは、インディアン撲滅に異常な執念を燃やす、カスター将軍を押さえるためであった。

Colonel Custer (Philip Carey), an outspoken believer in fair treatment for the Indians, is ousted from his post and forced into retirement. Fueled by ambition when a Senator Blaine (Don Haggerty) convinces him to run for President, Custer decides to upstage General Terry (Frank Ferguson) at Little Big Horn.

Young Indian brave White Bull captures and tames a wild stallion and names him Tonka. But when White Bull's cruel cousin claims Tonka for his own and mistreats the horse, White Bull sets him free. Tonka finally finds a home with Capt. Keogh and the 7th Calvary, and in 1876, rides into the Battle of Little Big Horn with General Armstrong Custer, becoming its only survivor.
