旧ソ連時代の1959年。ウラル山脈のディアトロフ峠をスキーで越えようとした登山グループが遭難する。後にグループ９名全員が遺体となって発見されるが、内の５名は極寒にも関わらず全裸に近い状態であり、残る４名は舌が無いなど異様な損傷を受けていた。さらに、身に着けていた衣服からは高濃度の放射能までもが検出された。当時さまざまな憶測がなされたが事件は忘れ去られようとしていた。そんな中、5人のアメリカ人学生が事件を調査しようと関係者に取材する。

エベレスト登頂中に起こった実話を元に描くサバイバルアドベンチャー。ロブが率いるエベレスト登頂ツアーの一行は、順調に登山を続けていた。だが、頂上アタックの日、下山が大幅に遅れた上に嵐で天候が急激に悪化し、彼らは散り散りになってしまう。
